Our top music videos from 1996, 2006, and 2016

Music videos both reflect and influence the culture of our times. As 2016 came to a close (thank God), 90s and 00s trends have continued to dominate our newsfeeds, wardrobes and wish lists. We’ve picked our highlight outfits from the videos of ‘96, ’06 and 2016 for some New Year inspiration and reflection.   Mabel: Thinking of You, 2016. Summer of 2016 featured our girl Mabel’s aesthetically perfect mix of pastel walls, double-demin, Moschino, bombers, hoops and hoodies on repeat     Rihanna: Work, 2016. A dream situation of Drake,... Read More

Girls had the colour thrown at us from a young age. On the day we were born, it defined precisely who we were. Our pink GAP baby grows demonstrated the only real constitution of identity we had at the time. Shit-stained or not, we looked quite cute wobbling around in them whilst our chuffed parents paraded us home with their pink ‘it’s a Girl!’ balloons. We squeezed our Cinderella toes into pink ballet slippers and dressed our prized Barbies in pink mini skirts we hoped one day... Read More

HOODIES – with heels or skivvies

Our new collection is bringing some spice back to the hoody. We wear ours in bed eating cake, we wear it out on the street, we wear it when we’ve eaten too much cake, and we tie it round our waist when we go out dancing. Hoodies are the only thing we wear wherever, whenever, and without fail in winter. In a way that only underwear or our favourite scrunchie does, it takes us through the day and when we’re being lazy we just don’t take it off... Read More

In the words of Love Actually’s Billy Mack, Christmas is all around us. Our red jumpers have been fished from the back of our wardrobes, we’ve stocked up on red mulled wine and bought some overpriced red crackers for our Christmas table. For a month where the expression ‘seeing red’ applies to our wardrobes, homes and mental state whilst last-minute shopping, we’ve put together a collection of some X-rated red fashion pictures to spice up the Xmas season.     How to leave a Christmas party: Kate falling... If Illustrated People showed at LFW we know exactly how it’d pan out. A cactus and palm tree filled space adorned with animal print fur, glitter, blow up aliens and flamingos, soundtracked by Nineties hip hop babes, braided hair everywhere and all of our best friends drinking Prosecco. Until then, we can only dream whilst ogling the beautiful collections shown over the past few days in our city. Here’s a round-up of our favourites… CAITLIN PRICE Our girl Pricey came through as always with a ‘Paradise pool party’ on the... Read More

Anna Potter is the St Martins Graphic Design graduate and all round sassy babe behind design agency, Top Girl Studio. The self professed ‘Regina George of Instagram’s’ latest project is iGirl or even more fittingly ‘The Burn Book of Instagram’. A series of Insta ready comments printed on bubblegum pink, iGirl looks satirically at our obsession with social media, featuring phrases such as ‘Your posts are tap water babe. I’m fiji’, and ‘I could murder a burger but I have to be vegan for Instagram’. But don’t think Anna’s mocking you – she’s... Read More

Forever everyone’s favourite fashion duo, this summer Eddie and Patsy are back with a whole movie’s worth of self-indulgence, OTT bitchy remarks and hilarious shenanigans. The trailer for Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie reveals a plot line which sees the two outcasted to the South of France after accidentally ‘killing’ Kate Moss. The film features perhaps the most impressive array of cameos to date, including of course Stella Mcartney, Emma Bunton and Jean Paul Gaultier, but also (amongst MANY others) Suzy Menkes, Rebel Wilson, Jon Hamm and plenty of models from Cara to Lara.

Chloe Sheppard is a 19 year old photographer shooting her friends and Instagram crushes on film. From photographing Mabel McVey for Adidas x Stella Sport to snapping her ultimate girl crush Lana del Rey, Chloe’s carving a name for herself in contemporary film photography. Her work, which has attracted the attention of Dazed Digital and the girls at Sukeban to name only two, delves into the worlds (and bedrooms) of her peers through rose tinted glasses. Chloe reacts against the selfie generation by capturing young women such as Iris Law, Joanna Kuchta and most... Read More

Illustrated People x The Braid Bar

Last Thursday we held a private printing event to launch our latest collaboration. Teaming up with our friends at The Braid Bar, we have created a new printed ‘The Braidy Bunch’ Ailsa in honour of the Selfridges pop-up.

Before her latest venture, Tokyo born Londoner Yuki Haze was adorning vintage jackets with raw emotions in the form of eye-grabbing paintwork, something that lead to a collaboration with denim brand Made Gold and a write-up on Northumbria student Erika Bowes was channelling the flawless style that’d made her internet famous into stunning creative direction and photography, and putting together a zine of her own. Together, the girls have established Sukeban Gang – an all encompassing platform for young creatives. Inspired by the emergence of collectives celebrating females... Read More
